Why I like Online Shopping

Online shopping is not for everyone, maybe that’s why I like it so much. All you have to do is put your items in your shopping cart and you’re done! No hard lifting, no stress. So easy!

I’ve been shopping online now for a long time. Do I go to the mall? Yes, sometimes but I’m often disappointed.

So, why do I like it so much?

1) I can get the new arrivals before they arrive in the store – Sometimes, I’ll see something online and want to purchase it but, when I go into the store they say they haven’t received it yet. Like what? I like my clothes fresh out the warehouse you know what I’m saying?

2) You don’t have to wait in line – Have you ever been inside Zara on a Friday? Girl, you should see that line. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Who wants to spend hours in a line when you can have your clothing delivered right to your door.

3) You get to stand out – Online shopping allows you to stand out. You get the chance to wear one of a kind pieces that no one else has. Every time I wear something unique people ask me “Where did you get that from?” and I’m like “Online!’.

IMG_4632

4) It’s easy – All you need is your credit card or visa debit and that’s it. LOL. You don’t have to spend hours walking through the mall looking for stuff. You just go online and search for what you want and BAM you purchase it and it’s delivered to your door. It’s like magic!

5) Online has what I want – Have you ever gone into the mall and couldn’t find what you wanted? Yeah, that’s me. I often go into the mall with a vision and most times the mall doesn’t have my vision. P.s. mall, can you get my vision? Hahah.

Online shopping is really convenient. A lot of my friends say that they could never do it. They ask me “So how do you know your size?”, well, from experience girl.

The first time I bought jeans online they were so tight! But over the years from going to the store and knowing what my size actually is, I now know how it works. You could say I’m a pro now, hahaha.

I only go into the mall really if I’m close by to one, or to test out makeup in Sephora.

As I said before online shopping isn’t for everyone but it works for me. I love it, it’s so easy!

How I find the Time to Blog

I have a full time job. I work 5 days per week from 9am – 5pm. I also have a household to take care of. So, how in the hell do I find the time to blog?

Processed with VSCO with q2 preset

Well, it’s not easy, I can tell you that. It looks easy though. Right?

I’ve always been interested in starting a blog. I read so many blogs and magazines on a daily basis, so I thought, why not? And I love fashion and I love taking pictures so it’s the perfect fit.

People think that blogging  just entails taking a bunch of pictures and that’s it. Well, it’s not sis.

The pictures have to be edited and you have to find topics to talk about. You have to find the right editing apps because not every editing app makes you look good or makes your content look appealing.

My Sundays are basically dedicated to creating content for the fashion part of my blog. Sometimes, I try to take multiple pictures of different fashion looks to post. I wake up, eat breakfast and from there I put on makeup and decide what to wear that day. Creating content on Sundays means that I don’t get much time to go out with friends and stuff like that.

Creating content takes a lot of time. What I try to do these days is write down a list of topics as they come, so that I have inspiration to write. I’m also trying to plan my looks from in the week before Sunday comes so I don’t have to stress.

The beauty part of my blog is probably the easiest part because I have a lot of beauty products.

I want to be a successful blogger and one day get paid to blog. In order to do that I have to put the time and effort into this.

Yes, I’m tired on Sundays and sometimes in the week, I just want to go to bed. But my mama taught me that anything worth having takes time and effort and sacrifice.

You have 24 hours in a day, why not use that time to develop that talent that you have, or that passion that you’re sitting on? Beyonce does it. Why can’t you too?.

My Fight With Depression

I’ve been depressed for the longest time but it’s not something that many people know because I’ve never really talked about it. People would always say things like “Oh you’re so happy”, but little did they know, that I was not.

Processed with VSCO with l10 preset

So, what is depression? Depression is defined as ” A state of feeling sad; marked by feelings of hopelessness, inactivity and dejection”. I remember feeling depressed at 18 because my life wasn’t where I wanted it to be. I felt so hopeless. I would sleep all day and wake up at 4 pm at times.

At one point, I even tried cutting myself. I had thoughts of killing myself daily. At church or around my friends I would pretend as if I was fine but I wasn’t. Fast forward to 2012 when things became worse.

That year, my mom had a manic episode. She had just come home from church in hysterics which was very baffling. We really weren’t expecting that, at all. My mom had never displayed any signs of mental illness, so to see her behaving like that was a shock to my system. My dad called the pastor and he came and prayed for her and she eventually calmed down and went to sleep. We had no idea what to do so we left her for a bit.

On my birthday, I went shopping with my best friend and then she decided to come home with me because I had plans to go to dinner later. When I came home, my mom didn’t know who I was so she started cursing at me and told my best friend to get out because we were lesbians. She then proceeded to run after my friend and I, so my friend decided to leave. After my friend left my mom tried to run after me as well so I ran to my room and locked it. I waited until she was calm and then I left the house and went to the Mcdonalds washroom to change for my dinner. I didn’t want to disappoint my friends and the only person who knew what was going on was my best friend. I was really sad and scared. The next day, I told my dad that something had to be done because my mom was only getting worse. To sum it all up, my mom was taken to the hospital by police escorts and diagnosed with Paranoid schizophrenia. I was really sad during that time. I didn’t want to live. I felt the lowest of low. The person who I knew to be my mom was no longer there. I was devastated. I felt like my world was over.

I didn’t actually start feeling better, until 2 years ago. A friend of mine, invited me out, to a movie called ” Collateral Beauty”. In it, the main character loses his daughter and he just stops living, but then, some of his friends came up with a plan to help him get better. One quote that stood out to me was ” Just be sure to notice the collateral beauty. It’s the profound connection to everything”. This made me think about everything that I had been through and that I had a purpose in life. It taught me to never give up on myself. Did I have depressive episodes after that and did my mom have manic episodes after that? Absolutely, but I learned to fight through the feelings.

Here are some tips that helped me to fight my depression

  • Be active- Whenever I feel depressed I like to go for a run. Running clears my head and helps me feel less sluggish. I run for 15 mins and do other exercises to get my blood pumping. Do what you can.
  • Don’t Isolate yourself- I used to isolate myself all the time whenever I felt depressed but I realized it only made me feel worse. Confide in a friend, or, when your friends invite you out, don’t say no. You’ll feel a little better trust me, I know.
  • Do things that you once liked to do- If you once liked to draw, go draw. Sitting on the couch doing nothing will only make you feel worse.

The point of this blog post is to share my story and let you know that there is hope. You can survive depression. I am not a victim, I’m a Survivor! Hope this helps someone out there.

Outfits : Spotlight on Dungarees

In Canada, the weather can be very volatile. Recently, we’ve been having somewhat warmer days, as recent, as last week. Dungarees, are a great option for this transitioning weather. They’re long, so if it gets cold, you won’t be freezing and they’re very versatile.

The ones that I’m wearing are from Asos.com. They’re made of polyester and they’re very comfortable. Throw on a T- Shirt underneath and you’ll look like one of the cool kids, or add an off the shoulder top and you’ll look like a bohemian babe.

Dungarees are making a comeback this season and I’m here for it.

I chose these black ones because black, is my happy colour and I feel like my best self wearing black.

You can wear these to brunch or on a hot date with your man. They are very effortless and fashionable and you won’t break the bank trying to purchase one of these.

I bought these about 4 years ago, but here’s a link to purchase similar ones : Asos.com

How To Make Green Juice

People ask me all the time “What’s in your smoothie?” or “what does that taste like?”, or they’ll say stuff like “eww it’s green” or, “that’s nasty”. I’m not a health freak or anything but I like to take care of myself, given my family history with illness. I lack energy and most times I have to take iron tablets to feel better, so what better solution than going the natural way?

fullsizeoutput_bb5

Green Juice is easy to make, really easy. All you need to get is a green leafy vegetable and a fruit or, if you wish to forego adding fruit, you can just use veggies. I like  adding fruit to my juice because it adds taste but everyone has their own preferences.

Once I drink green juice in the mornings I feel more energized and just overall better.

Green juice tastes like fruit, really, (You’re probably saying “stop lying”), but I’m not lying, it really does taste like fruit juice. Many people have this misconception that green juice tastes very bitter or nasty but it doesn’t, trust me, if it did I wouldn’t be drinking it EVERYDAY. And I wouldn’t lie to you, I’m a very straightforward person.

So, how does one make one make green juice? Well…….

  1. Add half cup of water to your blender
  2. Add Kale leaves, or any other green leafy vegetables that you may have e.g. Spinach, broccoli etc
  3. Add 1 banana or any other fruit you might have e.g. apple, strawberries, blueberries etc
  4. Add 2 ice cubes
  5. Blend and pour into a glass
