Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer

Girls always talk about the foundations they use, but what about what’s under your Foundation? Do you use lotion or primer? Do you apply a lot of primer or little primer. Do you like your primer creamy or hydrating? Do you even use primers bro? So many questions.

Today, I’ll be discussing the Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer

fullsizeoutput_1247

I have the sample size which I got from Sephora as a free gift with my points.  At first, I was skeptical about trying it but I decided to be open minded

fullsizeoutput_1246

I do photoshoots for my blog on Sundays and I Always wear makeup for this, so I decided instead of using up all my Fenty Beauty primer, to use this with my Maybelline Foundation.

Things I like about this primer

  • It’s very hydrating – When I put this on, it feels like I just washed my face. My face feels so hydrated and cool.
  • It leaves my makeup looking fresh with a healthy glow – I have oily skin, so the fact that this doesn’t make me oily, is a miracle.
  • It’s not heavy – Some primers can feel really heavy but when I apply this to my face it feels like I have nothing on. My face doesn’t feel like bricks Haha
  • It makes my makeup look flawless – Every time that I have this primer on, it makes my foundation look so flawless and airbrushed and it shows in my pictures. I woke up like this, I woke up like this.

Overall, I really like this primer and I’ll use it again. The only thing I don’t like is the price. Fifty dollars for a primer? Girl, bye. Just give me the samples please and thank you.

What primers do you use?

MAC Prep + Prime Fix + Matte Spray

Setting sprays aren’t my thing. I usually just bake, brush off and go. I’ve tried setting sprays and I just end up being more oily. Oiliness is not my thing, you know what I’m saying?

ACS_0017.jpg

I went into the MAC store on Sunday  to try  out the spray because I had heard  a lot of great stories about it but I wanted to try it before buying it. I mean, who wants to waste $30?

ACS_0018

When I went into the store, I saw the bottle but I was going to try the one that makes your skin glow.  The sales rep then came up to me and asked if I need help. I told her that I have oily skin and then she told me that she too had oily skin and that she uses the Fix + matte. I told her that I wanted to try it first. Haha I had no idea what to do. I was just spraying. She was like “No hun, you have to hold it 20 cm away from your face”. I was laughing at myself.

After I sprayed it on my face I waited for about 5 mins. I didn’t really notice anything but my friend said to me “Wow, your face looks so good”, I said, “Hmm I don’t really see a difference” and she said “Raceen, you know me, I would never lie to you”. So I purchased it.

ACS_0019

On Mac’s website it’s described as “A lightweight mattifying spray that refreshes skin while instantly controlling shine and oil on the surface without disturbing makeup. The innovative formula contains powders, silica and other oil- absorbing agents to help set makeup, rebalance and mattify skin“.

I must say, I’m really liking this spray. You have to shake the bottle before using it. I’ve used it twice so far and it makes my skin matte for about 4 hours until I have to use it again.

Here’s what my skin looks like when I use it.IMG_5192

Review : Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick

Imagine for a second that lipsticks were never invented. There would be chaos. Girls would be walking around with their lips dry, there would be no color to brighten up your face. Horrid, right? Let’s not imagine that.

Lipsticks are probably my favourite part of makeup. If I don’t have on lipstick I feel really weird. I have really dark lips so wearing  lipstick makes me feel more confident.

Today, I’ll be reviewing the Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick.

fullsizeoutput_fde

I bought this lipstick sometime last year, and I must say, I really love it. The color that I purchased was Griselda. I chose this colour because I don’t like bright lipstick. I like when my lipstick looks dark. It’s a kind of dark berry color and it looks great with my red hair.

fullsizeoutput_fdd

On sephora.com the lipstick is  described as “An ultra-slim lipstick with a long- wearing, petal- soft matte finish, created in a rainbow of weightless, color-intense shades designed to flatter all skin tones. The size is 0.06 oz/1.7 g. The cost is $23 Canadian dollars.

fullsizeoutput_fdf

I like the fact that there is a lot of product on the stick. It’s  not like Mac lipsticks where, there is barely anything on the stick. It’s matte, but it doesn’t go on matte like mac lipsticks (Sorry for the constant comparisons mac). It’s very creamy when you apply it then it becomes matte. Genius, right?

fullsizeoutput_fdc

When it dries it’s matte but it’s not dried out matte like Mac matte lipsticks. EVERY TIME I wear mac lipsticks I always have to apply lip gloss over it because it’s so dry!. With this, when its dries it’s not that dry. It’s creamy, you know what I’m saying?

It’s really smooth and it doesn’t clump. I really love the dark colour and they have a wide range of colours. So if you want to go ratchet, there’s a colour for you or, if you want to be girly there’s a color there for you as well

fullsizeoutput_fe2

I also like the shape of the lipstick. The way it’s shaped makes it easier to apply the lipstick to the corners of your lips. I feel like the shape also helps me to keep the lipstick within the correct lines.

Below, are some pictures of me wearing it.

IMG_4961

I’ll give this lipstick a 5/5 stars. It’s not as matte as Fenty Beauty’s Stunna lip paint but I REALLY love the formula and I don’t really love super matte lipsticks anyway. I’ll definitely go back to sephora, to try out some new colours as well. Oh Rihanna please  don’t take all my coins.

Makeup Organizer

Being organized is hard, for me. If you googled the least organized person, my name would probably come up. You know what they say, “Bad habits die hard”.

I’ve been trying to become more organized recently, and I must say, it makes my life easier.

I recently  moved about 3 months ago and I didn’t really know how to organize my makeup or where to put them. I wondered if I should just leave them on my dresser? Do I put them on my washroom counter? Do I just throw them outside? These are the questions, I asked myself.

Well, I found the solution to my problem. Upon researching on Amazon, I saw these really cool plastic organizers, but I didn’t purchase them. One day, I went into the dollar store to get something and I saw similar plastic organizers, I was so happy! And the best thing is that they were so much cheaper than Amazon! Woohoo! Who doesn’t love cheap things?

Below, are some pictures of the organizers I purchased from my local Dollarama store here in Canada.

fullsizeoutput_f64

These are little plastic drawers. I use them to store my foundations, concealers, mascaras etc. It makes my life so much easier.I don’t have to be searching all over the place to find my makeup. I have 3 of them but I’m going to purchase more.

fullsizeoutput_f61

The top drawer is where I put all my concealers and my eyebrow gel. This is where all my Nyx concealears, NARS concealer and Rimmel London eyebrow gel are.

fullsizeoutput_f5e

Below my concealers are my Fenty Beauty match stix and shimmers. I have one for concealing, one for contouring and one for my highlighting. For my concealer I use the shade Latte, for my contouring I use the shade espresso and for my highlight I use the shade Sinamon.

fullsizeoutput_f63

fullsizeoutput_f5c

I put my foundations in the other drawers. I use Fenty Beauty, Maybelline and Loreal Infallible foundations. The drawers are clear, so it’s really easy to find everything.

fullsizeoutput_f5bfullsizeoutput_f5a

So where do I put my brushes, beauty blenders, lipsticks  and setting powder? Well, I also found another little treasure in the dollar store. Here’s a picture below.

fullsizeoutput_f65

fullsizeoutput_f66

This organizer has little pockets where I can put my lipsticks and the bigger pocket is where I put all my 10 brushes. In the middle is where I place my 4 beauty blenders, setting powder and setting spray.

I’ve probably said this a thousand times but this does make my life easier. I don’t have to be searching all over for my makeup. Everything is just there, in front of my face. The drawers are big enough to hold enough products and I love it.

Releasing Negativity

Have you ever had some really negative thoughts? Thoughts like “I’m not pretty enough” or “I don’t deserve this job” or, “No one is going to love me”. Do you worry about things that you have no control over? Whether it’s self imposed or something else, negative thinking can be a big obstacle in our personal development.

It’s a struggle that each of us go through daily. Being positive, takes a lot of work but it can be achieved. Instead of doing the easy thing and drowning in negativity, why not work at being more positive?

IMG_4768

Here are some full proof ways of releasing negative thoughts which I practice as well

  1. Whenever you start to feel worrisome, smile – Acknowledge that your worries are just an old habit that you’re choosing to release. Negativity is a choice and by smiling you’re telling negative thoughts to leave you alone.

IMG_4769

2. Take Deep Breaths – I have anxiety problems so this helps me to calm down. As you exhale say “I’m letting go”. Remind yourself that you don’t have to choose negative reactions any longer.

IMG_4771

3.Focus on something else – Sometimes, when I feel a negative thought coming on, instead of wallowing I try to focus on something else. I go clean my room or read a book to keep my mind focused on something else

IMG_4772

4. Be Grateful – Whenever I feel negative thoughts coming on I remember to be grateful. Gratefulness puts things in perspective and helps me to feel at peace. I thank God for my family, I thank God for a roof over my head etc. After doing this, I feel so much better.

IMG_4775

5) Don’t believe what you think – When my mom got sick I had thoughts of “Oh I’m going to have schizophrenia too and I’m not going to be able to have kids because they’re going to have schizophrenia too”. I felt paralyzed by my thoughts .My manager was the one who told me “You’re not going to have schizophrenia, you’re going to live a happy life”. That really changed my mindset. Believe in yourself.

IMG_4770

Releasing negativity isn’t easy, but, you have to start somewhere if you want to be happy.

You can start with these affirmations

  • I release fear and negativity, I choose to find joy in the present instead.
  • I choose to release fear.
  • I choose to have power over my thoughts.
  • I choose  to have a more peaceful attitude everyday.

IMG_4773

I’m not saying that, you’re going to be in a happy bubble everyday  and nothing is going to affect you. If that were the case we would be probably be in heaven right now. But in the same way that happiness is a choice so is negativity.

You can choose to wallow in negativity or rise above it and release it.

Beauty: The Product I Use for Baking my Face

Baking is a makeup technique that involves letting a setting powder sit on the face for an extended period, usually on top of concealer.

I remember the first time I saw people doing it on YouTube and I thought, “That’s ridiculous, what are they doing?”. But now, Baking is my best friend. Every time I have on makeup just know, my face is baked girl. A girl’s gotta get Baked! Hahaha.

I have oily skin, so setting sprays only make me oilier.I’ve tried several different brands, and none of them work. I’ve also tried different setting powders from ELF cosmetics,Mac cosmetics and also Nyx. These either made me look too ashy, or the powder wasn’t loose enough or it was caked all over my face. Yikes! It was a nightmare.

Luckily, for me, about a year ago I started watching Jeffree Star on YouTube.  A friend told me he was the makeup Guru, of Gurus. He was applying his makeup and then he started using this setting powder and he said, “This is the best setting powder y’all”. And I saw for myself that it was really good. I researched what it was and found out that it was called RCMA No Color Powder and then I purchased it on Amazon. I love it!

fullsizeoutput_f41

When I put this on I use a beauty blender and it doesn’t leave me looking ashy or caked.

fullsizeoutput_f42

There’s a lot in the bottle so I don’t have to buy anymore till next year. Hahaha

fullsizeoutput_f40

I start out by applying my foundation, then concealer, then setting powder. Yes, in that order. I need to sap up that oil baby girl. Haha.

Below are some pictures of the process

1)After applying foundation and concealer get a beauty blender and add setting powder. Don’t add too much, because you don’t want to look ashy.IMG_4668.jpeg

2) Apply powder to your face using the beauty blender. I apply the powder where the concealer is, my T zone area. So my forehead, under eyes nose and chin. Those are the spots that usually get too oily. I let it stay on for about 5 minutes to soak up the oil while I do my eyebrows or eyelashes. I don’t dampen the beauty blender.

IMG_4672

3) Then, I use the same beauty blender and blend out the powder after 5 minutes. Then I switch to a clean beauty blender and brush off the excess powder. Above, I was using a blue beauty blender and in this picture below I’m using a pink one.

IMG_4677-1

4) Then, I use my Quo Powder brush to brush off the rest of the powder and blend everything in.

IMG_4679-1

And this is the end result!

IMG_4689

IMG_4681

I’m not a beauty guru, but this is by far my favourite setting powder. I don’t like setting sprays because they make me oily so this is the best thing for me.

My Favourite Concealer

Finding the right concealer can be tough. Throughout the years, I’ve had my fair share of different brands of concealers. Some leave you looking ashy, oily or out right weird looking.

I have dark under eye circles so I like to use concealer to cover that up. I don’t want people asking me if I’m ok every second, you know what I’m saying? Girl, I know you can relate.

Recently, I found one that works well, The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. I absolutely love it!

fullsizeoutput_e64

This concealer is EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING! Yes, believe the hype.

fullsizeoutput_e6a

I vividly remember the day I went to sephora looking for a new good concealer with my friend. I had heard some friends talking about it and decided to see what it was like.I even read the reviews online and 99% were good reviews. There was no one to help me find my shade in the store, so I said to my friend “You know what? I’ll just try them on until I find my shade”. I chose one that looked like it would suit me then I proceeded to apply it. I immediately fell in love. LOL and I’ve never been in love before. After I put it on,I asked my friend how it looked and she said, “Wow, it looks so good, and you chose the right shade too”.  I was so happy.

fullsizeoutput_e66

My shade is Biscuit. Biscuit is a medium dark natural balance of pink and yellow undertones. This covers my dark under eye circles so well and makes my face look radiant. It doesn’t crease! I like when my concealer looks bright and is a tone lighter than my skin tone so I love this.

These photos below show how I apply my concealer.

What I Use To Fill In my Eyebrows

I think my eyebrows are probably my most favourite part of my face. I just love them. I like to get my eyebrows threaded, at least once per month and in between those visits,  I tweeze them at home.If I’m not wearing makeup, I always make sure my brows are filled in. It just makes my face look brighter.

In the past, I used those simple eyebrow pencils that you would  find in the hair store or the local pharmacy. I used to think that they were the BEST thing! The biggest problem with those eyebrow pencils, they would rub off so easily. By the end of the day there would be nothing left on your brows.Yikes!

About a year ago, I found the best thing for my eyebrows. I found Rimmel London’s Brow Shake Filling Powder. It’s light and easy to use. I like my brows bold, dark and thin and I find that this helps with that. The best thing? It doesn’t come off.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Below are some pictures of what my eyebrows look like, before, and after using the filling powder.

Before

IMG_4372

When filling in my brows I like to slather on some concealer around them. I like using L.A. Girl Pro Conceal High Definition concealer. It just defines my brows more.

IMG_4346

Next, I use my beauty blender to tap the concealer in and blend around my eyebrows.

fullsizeoutput_dc5

I then shake the filling powder and apply it to my brows

IMG_4369

IMG_4370

And this is the end result.

IMG_4361

IMG_4360IMG_4359IMG_4362

It doesn’t rub off!

IMG_4371

I really loves this filling powder. I’ve had this for close to a year now, that’s how long it lasts! Bomb right?  I bought mine at Shoppers Drug mart here in Canada for about $10 but  you can also purchase it Here

How I Clean My Beauty Blenders

I use my beauty blender to blend my concealer as well as baking. I use a brush for my foundation and they get so dirty! In the past, I would  either throw them out after I used them, or continue to reuse them.

IMG_4160

I try to clean my beauty blenders at least once per week because I mostly use makeup on the weekends.

I’m not Ok with breakouts or wasting my hard earned money, so I found a solution to my little problem.

Heres how I clean my beauty blenders.

1)Place beauty blenders in a container with water.

IMG_4163

2)Take out one of the sponges and add a small amount of Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. You can use other brands of dish washing liquids but I find that this brand works the best.

IMG_4165

You can find this dishwashing liquid at your local grocery store.

IMG_4161

3)Then start to gently rub the sponge on makeup brush remover mat. You can find these at your local dollar store or from Amazon Here

fullsizeoutput_d29

4)Gently rub sponge on the mat until makeup is completely gone.

IMG_4166

5)Rinse, then towel dry the sponges.

fullsizeoutput_d41

Then you have clean blenders.

fullsizeoutput_d2b

fullsizeoutput_d28

This process takes about 5 minutes, so nothing too long. Thanks to my friend Elise for recommending the dollar store for the makeup cleanser mat. I’m in love with it. My life is so much easier now.

Have a great day babes.

The Mascara I Use For Longer Lashes

I don’t wear false lashes. I know, shocker, right?. I have nothing against false lashes themselves, or people who wear them, I just don’t know how to put them on. I’m also scared that if I put them on, they’ll fall into my eyes or something like that. You know how clumsy I am and all.

So, what do I use? Well, I use, Mascara! More specifically, Covergirl Lash blast Volume Mascara.

fullsizeoutput_ccf

I apply 3 coats of this bad boy on each lash and BAM!Longer lashes! It’s like MAGIC!.I like that it doesn’t clump and it makes my eyes really stand out.

fullsizeoutput_cd0

When your lashes look longer it brightens up your face and draws attention to your eyes. Your eyes will look sexier and inviting.
