Spotlight on Beauty: Vitamin C Serum

I always see articles online, about Vitamin C Serums but I’ve never really read them or anything, until recently. I always think to myself, ,”Hmm, this must make your skin really oily”, and, as you all know, oil, is just not my thing. My search  lead me to Amazon where I typed the words “Dark Spot Remover” into the search bar and lo and behold, Vitamin C Serum popped up. At first, I was dumbfounded, I couldn’t believe, that those articles that I had ignored, came back to haunt me. And, to think that I could’ve gotten rid of my dark spots, a long time ago too! Ugh. I particularly found this one that I liked called “All Natural Advice Anti- Aging Vitamin C Serum” for $27.

This serum, has a 4.5 rating on Amazon and most of the reviews are really great. I have been using this now for a month and I see marked results. I love that it’s not oily, and it doesn’t dry out my skin. When I put this on, my skin instantly looks younger and brighter. I even notice that my dark spots are clearing up.

The ingredients are all natural. The directions on the bottle : use in the mornings and at night, before going to bed on the face and neck areas.

How To Define Your Personal Style

How does one define their personal style? The Merriam Webster dictionary describes the word “Style” as, “A distinctive manner of expression”.How do you express yourself? Is your style bohemian, grunge, chic? Is your style ever evolving? Do you only wear plaid shirts and jeans?

It’s hard to find a style you like. It’s taken me many years, of trial, and error to figure out my style. Most people, have a mixture of styles.I look up to people like, Rihanna and Bella Hadid for style inspirations. They wear a lot of black, graphic T-Shirts which I LOVE, and Bella is always wearing some interesting denim pieces that I love as well. Their styles are edgy, yet sophisticated which I love.

Here are some ways to figure out your personal style

  • Find out who your style icons are- Is it Naomi Campbell, or, is it Gigi Hadid’s sporty style that you’re drawn to? Figure out who influences your style.
  • Focus on the outfits- Once you find your style influencers, figure out a name that describes that type of style. Is it bohemian? Is it edgy? Is it trend forward?. Whichever one feels true to you, that will help you get a clear vision of what your style is.
  • Take pictures of your favourite outfits- I always,Always, take pictures of the outfits that I love. Sometimes, when I don’t know what to wear, I look back on my photos to get ideas.
  • Evaluate your Closet- Do you have tons of denim jackets, or fur coats in your closet? This should tell you what your style is. I tend to buy lots of black graphic tees and dresses, this shows me that my style is edgy but sophisticated as well.
  • Try Something New- I LOVE wearing black and dark colours but every now and then, if I see a yellow top that I like, I’ll purchase it. My closet is filled with dark pieces and the odd yellow, or bohemian piece. My style is edgy but I like to step out of my comfort zone at times and try something new, hence, the odd yellow top or bohemian skirt. Style is all about expressing yourself, so if you wake up feeling Bold, wear that yellow top girl and slay the day
  • Wear clothes that make you feel confident- I once wore a green dress from H&M and my mom told me that I looked really good in that style of dress. Ever since then I’ve been wearing silhouettes like that. When I wear that dress I feel confident and sexy.

If you feel like your style is more like Rihanna’s edgy style, wearing a floral dress is going to make you feel uncomfortable. So, don’t force it.

The Foundations That I Use For My Oily Skin

If you follow me on social media, you’ll see me complaining about having oily skin. Girl, the struggle is VERY REAL. You know those times when you have to be running to the washroom to put on blotting powder because your skin looks so oily? Yeah girl, it’s not fun.

I used to get so oily, to the point where I felt like not wearing makeup at all, but alas, I did my research and found some solutions. The Key to finding the right foundation for your oily skin, is the formula. One thing that I’ve found, that works, is that it’s good to stick to foundations that are matte and oil free. You can’t use products that are oily to get rid of oil. I know some people like to use those foundations that make them look all glowed up but since I have oily skin I can’t glow up, ya know what I’m sayyinnnnng?

Here are some foundations that I use for my oily skin

1 Mac Pro Long wear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

When I wear this foundation, it lasts all day, I don’t have to do any touch ups. The only thing I don’t like, is that they don’t have my shade. This shade is darker than my skin tone. It costs about $41 on Maccosmetics.ca

2 Loreal Infallible Pro- Matte 24 Hour FoundationProcessed with VSCO with kk1 preset

I start work at 9am and this lasts till 5pm, when I’m done. It’s very matte. It’s also affordable on my pockets for just $15 on amazon or in your local Shoppers drug mart. Here’s a link to buy it on amazon LorealFoundation

3 Maybelline New York Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

This foundation is really cheap and really matte. It costs about $8 at Shoppers Drug mart. Every time I wear this, people always tell me “Wow, your makeup looks so good”. It does really make me look like I have on makeup and it’s not heavy. My only issue with this, They don’t have my shade. I know, sucks right?. When I use this, I have to mix the lighter shade with a darker one. Exhausting, I know.

This formula is everything. It’s matte but it’s soft matte, meaning it’s not as dry as the others. People tell me all the time that my makeup looks good and natural when I have this on. Plus, they have my shade! I don’t have to mix anything, all I have to do is just put it on and go. This foundation makes my life so much easier. Rihanna, you did your thing girl!!!

How to Build Your Self Confidence

Dictionary.com describes the word Confident as “Being sure of oneself, having no uncertainty about one’s own abilities; Bold”. I may seem confident now, but I wasn’t born this way. Confidence is not genetic,I’ve had to work hard over the years to build my confidence.

Bullies, self doubt, fear and life in general can deflate your confidence.How do I know this? Because I’ve personally experienced bullying, low self esteem and fear. I still have self doubts, because I’m human, but now I know I can beat them.

How does one gain self confidence? Is your self confidence in your control?

Yes, you have the power to build your self confidence. Yes, you can be in control of your self worth.

Below are some tips that will help you build your confidence, in no particular order.

  1. Dress Nicely. When you start to dress nicely you will start to feel good about yourself. There are days when my self confidence feels so low but the minute I put on a nice dress or shirt, my confidence goes from 5-500%. Find something in your closet that makes you feel good about yourself
  2. Stay away from Negativity. Try to avoid people who bring you down or make you feel bad about how you look ,or act. Negativity only decreases your confidence. Surround yourself  with people who make you feel good about yourself. People, who uplift you and make you happy.I’m not saying that you should rely on your friends all the time to make you feel good but if they make you feel more bad than good, what’s the point?
  3. Stand Tall. I have the worst posture, so who am I to give this advice?. But I know this works because I do it a lot. When I remind myself to stand tall, with my shoulders pulled back I feel better about myself. In fact, I feel like the baddest bitch in the room.
  4. Create personal boundaries. Learn to say no. Teach others to respect your personal boundaries. Boundaries = more control over your life = higher self confidence.
  5. Care for Yourself.  Make time to take care of yourself. Exercise, eat healthy, get enough rest. One thing I also like to do is masks. Putting on a mask helps me relax and helps my mental health tremendously. Find ways to take care of yourself. When you feel good about yourself, you will feel more confident.
  6. Fake it till you Make it. How does one become more confident? You fake it, till you make it. Yes I said it! And how do you do that? By practicing. Start by looking in the mirror every and telling yourself that you are beautiful, smart, intelligent and that you deserve the best things in life.

Why It’s important to Write Down Your Goals

I’ve never been the type of person to write down my goals. I’m a very spontaneous person and I believe whatever happens, happens. So, where did I get this idea from about writing down goals? Well, the very first day when I started my job in sales, my boss said to us “It’s a good idea to write down your goal for the week in not just sales but for your life, if you’ve never done it before, you should try it and see what happens”. I was really skeptical at first, saying “hmm I don’t really know”, but I decided to take my boss’s advice and try it out

At first I wrote down how many sales I wanted to make for the week and I would email that number to my boss, I was still skeptical but I said to myself, what’s the harm in trying. And lo and behold, I started hitting my sale goals for the week 99% of the time and that made me really happy. It actually really works!!!

Then, I started applying the same principle to my personal life and things really started happening. One day I said to my boss “where did you get this idea from about writing goals down” and she said ‘I know that it works because I’ve tried it”

Something magical  happens when you write down your goals. It’s not just about writing down goals, you have to take the steps needed to achieve  them, whether it’s putting in more hours at work, or studying more to get that grade that you want.

When you don’t have a plan, you don’t how you will reach your destination. So here are some steps on how to achieve your goals

  1. Figure out what your goal is-  Everyone has different goals. Some people want to lose weight or make more money, figure out what you want
  2. Write down your goals- Use paper and write down your goals. Start with small specific goals first then add on to the list if you want to. Put this list somewhere where you can view it daily
  3. Set a plan to achieve your goals-  If losing weight is one of your goals, figure out ways to achieve that. Maybe in order to start losing weight you have to start taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator. Find ways that work for you.

In the past year since writing down my goals, I’ve accomplished so much, Heck, starting a blog was one of the goals that I wrote down and here I am today on my Blog.

You don’t have to  do what I do, but I’m telling you what works for me. Try it out, something magical might happen to you.

How To Make Green Juice

People ask me all the time “What’s in your smoothie?” or “what does that taste like?”, or they’ll say stuff like “eww it’s green” or, “that’s nasty”. I’m not a health freak or anything but I like to take care of myself, given my family history with illness. I lack energy and most times I have to take iron tablets to feel better, so what better solution than going the natural way?

Green Juice is easy to make, really easy. All you need to get is a green leafy vegetable and a fruit or, if you wish to forego adding fruit, you can just use veggies. I like  adding fruit to my juice because it adds taste but everyone has their own preferences.

Once I drink green juice in the mornings I feel more energized and just overall better.

Green juice tastes like fruit, really, (You’re probably saying “stop lying”), but I’m not lying, it really does taste like fruit juice. Many people have this misconception that green juice tastes very bitter or nasty but it doesn’t, trust me, if it did I wouldn’t be drinking it EVERYDAY. And I wouldn’t lie to you, I’m a very straightforward person.

So, how does one make one make green juice? Well…….

  1. Add half cup of water to your blender
  2. Add Kale leaves, or any other green leafy vegetables that you may have e.g. Spinach, broccoli etc
  3. Add 1 banana or any other fruit you might have e.g. apple, strawberries, blueberries etc
  4. Add 2 ice cubes
  5. Blend and pour into a glass

I really wanted something that I could easily carry my wallet in that wasn’t too small like my Guess purse or too large like some of my other bags. I was really captivated by the colours and I thought to myself this is really different than all my typical black bags. I really like the fact that it stands out in  a room of other handbags

My wallet -That dark brown thing? Yeah, that’s my wallet, I purchased it on zara.com. It was on sale for 10$ I think? I got it in the men’s section

My lip gloss-I got it from a local store. It’s Nivea.Yeah, me wearing lipgloss, weird right? I’ve been trying to stop wearing lipstick so much and be more au natural.

My Tarte blush- Sometimes a girl needs a little colour on the road you know? To brighten that smile. This blush was from Sephora. They gave it to me for my birthday

My Quo brush- My brother got me a makeup brush set for my Christmas gift. I was so elated, he knew just the thing to get me. My brother knows me so well

My Fenty Beauty Matemoiselle lipstick- I recently went to sephora and got this lipstick for $18, the shade is Griselda. I love dark lipsticks, I’m not a fan of bright shades.

My Mac Blot Pressed Powder- I use this for my problem oily areas. A girls gotta not look oily on the road, You know what  I’m shayingggg?

DSCN0075.JPGMy Caramel Pear Body Mist – Smelling good is always a must. My grandma got this for me. It smells so good. It’s not a strong in your face scent, it’s very subtle but I love it.
