MAC Prep + Prime Fix + Matte Spray

Setting sprays aren’t my thing. I usually just bake, brush off and go. I’ve tried setting sprays and I just end up being more oily. Oiliness is not my thing, you know what I’m saying?

ACS_0017.jpg

I went into the MAC store on Sunday  to try  out the spray because I had heard  a lot of great stories about it but I wanted to try it before buying it. I mean, who wants to waste $30?

ACS_0018

When I went into the store, I saw the bottle but I was going to try the one that makes your skin glow.  The sales rep then came up to me and asked if I need help. I told her that I have oily skin and then she told me that she too had oily skin and that she uses the Fix + matte. I told her that I wanted to try it first. Haha I had no idea what to do. I was just spraying. She was like “No hun, you have to hold it 20 cm away from your face”. I was laughing at myself.

After I sprayed it on my face I waited for about 5 mins. I didn’t really notice anything but my friend said to me “Wow, your face looks so good”, I said, “Hmm I don’t really see a difference” and she said “Raceen, you know me, I would never lie to you”. So I purchased it.

ACS_0019

On Mac’s website it’s described as “A lightweight mattifying spray that refreshes skin while instantly controlling shine and oil on the surface without disturbing makeup. The innovative formula contains powders, silica and other oil- absorbing agents to help set makeup, rebalance and mattify skin“.

I must say, I’m really liking this spray. You have to shake the bottle before using it. I’ve used it twice so far and it makes my skin matte for about 4 hours until I have to use it again.

Here’s what my skin looks like when I use it.IMG_5192

Random Thoughts – Dating Apps Are Exhausting

I know, you’re probably wondering why I’m writing about dating. After all, my blog is about Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle and Travel. Confused? Keep reading.

Well, I decided to add another category called Random Thoughts. This category will just encapsulate my thoughts on different topics. I’m a thinker, so it’s good to get my thoughts out. I felt like I kinda mixed up my fashion posts, with my life experiences and that’s not what I want. I want each category to represent exactly what it says it is.

So my Random topic for today is Dating Apps are Exhausting

I read an article that said Rihanna broke up with her boyfriend because she was “Tired of men because she gets tired of men sometimes”. After I read it I ended up laughing hysterically because I thought it was so funny. A babe can really relate. You know what I’m saying? Can this be on a billboard somewhere?.This is my mood right now.

I’m single and I’ve been single for about 3 years now. The last time I dated someone was probably in 2016 and that was short lived. That’s another story for another time.I guess you could say I’m attractive but I never really get to meet people. When I go out, I’m always with the same friends, so there’s not a lot of opportunities to meet guys. I also spend a lot of time with my brothers so sometimes when I go out with them people assume that they’re my boyfriend. Or, people assume my best friend is my boyfriend. Or, guys think I’m unapproachable. Or guys just stare at me but never say hello. Haha so many reasons.

I recently joined a dating app. I know, astonishing! I wanted to try something different. Some of my friends told me that they found boyfriends from dating apps, one is even engaged. At first, I was kind of skeptical but I said you know what? Let’s see how this goes. I mean if I never try I’ll never know right? Haha.

It has been 2 weeks and I must say I find dating apps exhausting. I’ve been on 4 dates with 4, very different, guys so far. I know, you’re probably saying ” But 4 dates isn’t even a lot”. Yeah it’s not a lot but after the 4th date I was like “Yep, I’m kind of tired of this”.

I won’t get into specifics. Each guy had different qualities. Two of them were gentlemanly, one just wanted to play around and the other one was very self centered and talked about how hot he looked. Hahaha.

So why do I find dating apps so exhausting? Well……

  1. I can’t be bothered – I wish I could skip the dating part and just end up with the person I’m supposed to be with, But yeah that’s not reality.
  2. Getting dressed up takes time – Like son, can I just go on a pyjama date? Hahaha. The whole process of trying to look good so that your date sees you in a good light is exhausting. You should see my room LOL. Too much work, I want someone to like me for my personality not my looks. Even though I like dressing up, I have my days when I don’t feel like putting on nice clothes.
  3. Sometimes, their personality  or looks doesn’t match their profiles – Sometimes they seem fun or romantic during texts but they’re crass and boring in real life. HAHA. Maybe they think the same thing with me, I don’t know, or care. I once met someone who said that they were 6ft and when I met with them they were my height. I’m 5’7. I had to laugh after the date.
  4. Some people try too hard – You know those “Good Morning beautiful” texts? Yeah, I’ve come to hate them. Haha. I used to think they were cute, but now I find them annoying. Like why do you have to try so hard? I’m not saying we shouldn’t communicate, but everyday? Every morning? Haha, maybe something is wrong with me. Sometimes I ignore texts or I don’t reply till hours later or I delete people’s numbers. Again, I’m just being honest.
  5. I can’t keep up – I’m laughing at myself writing this but I really can’t keep up. Sometimes I don’t remember what you said to me last night or what you said last  week. Sometimes I forget people’s names. I’m just being honest.

I decided to put a pause on the dating app. I don’t know, it just felt too much. The whole thing felt more negative than positive and super exhausting.

Maybe it’s because I work from home now that I don’t go out much but I’m going to start making the effort to go out more and make new friends. I’m going to start exploring again like I used to.

Am I being desperate in trying out dating apps? I don’t think so. If I don’t meet people I just don’t, there isn’t anything wrong with trying out dating apps. As I mentioned before some people have good experiences, some don’t. Plus, I don’t care about people’s opinions, I march to the beat of my own drum.

Will I ever start using it again? Maybe. For now, I don’t like the feeling I get from using it, so I stopped. You know that saying?, “Get rid of what no longer serves you”. Yeah that’s what I’m doing.

Am I writing off dating? Haha, no. I’m just going to try real life.

Why be exhausted when you can enjoy life?

Disclaimer – I’m not telling people to not use dating apps. Do what you feel comfortable doing.  If you want to try it out do so, if you don’t want to, don’t.It’s not for everyone. This is just my personal experience from using it.

Have you ever tried any dating apps? How was your experience? Did you like it? Did you hate it?

Why I love Wearing Dresses

Dresses are my best friends! Yeah, I said it!. If you viewed my closet, you would see that 90 % of my clothes,  are dresses. There are red ones, black ones, blue ones, floral ones, every colour that you could imagine. I probably own 2 skirts. Haha, I’m a weirdo.ACS_0005

So, why do I love wearing dresses so much? Well, here’s why…..

1)It’s so easy – All you have to do is throw on a dress and go. YES, it’s that easy, no fuss, no stress. I’m lazy OK?.I like things that are easy, don’t you?

ACS_0004

2) Dresses make me look good – Have you ever passed  by a mirror and looked at yourself and said “Damn son, I LOOK GOOD’. Yeah, dresses make me feel like that. You should try it sometime.

ACS_0006

3) Skirts are the worst – Yo, I can’t deal with skirts. Like I can’t. When you buy a skirt you have to find the right top to go with it. You have to find the right type of skirt for your taste and style. Like hmm do I want to wear an ‘A’ line skirt or a pencil skirt. Or, hmm ‘A’ line skirts make me look fat so I’m not going to wear it. Lol, too much work.

ACS_0007

4) It lifts my mood – One day when I was feeling down I tried on a red dress in my closet and I instantly felt better. Instantly, I just started smiling and laughing.

ACS_0010

5) I like showing off my legs – Ok, so I have nice legs, I get compliments on them all the time. Wearing pants doesn’t allow me to do that, hence why I love wearing dresses.

ACS_0008

6) Dresses make me feel free – I don’t know why, but when I wear a dress, I feel free. I can feel the wind on my legs. I can feel the sun on my skin. Dresses just makes me feel happy and free.

Look, I’m not telling anyone to love or wear dresses. I love them because of the reasons above.Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, whether that’s jeans, or skirts or if you feel like wearing an outfit straight off the runway. Or, if you feel like wearing sweatpants.

Be your authentic self always.

My dress is from Zara. I bought it last December but unfortunately it’s not in stock anymore. However, you can find similar ones Here

Review : Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick

Imagine for a second that lipsticks were never invented. There would be chaos. Girls would be walking around with their lips dry, there would be no color to brighten up your face. Horrid, right? Let’s not imagine that.

Lipsticks are probably my favourite part of makeup. If I don’t have on lipstick I feel really weird. I have really dark lips so wearing  lipstick makes me feel more confident.

Today, I’ll be reviewing the Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick.

fullsizeoutput_fde

I bought this lipstick sometime last year, and I must say, I really love it. The color that I purchased was Griselda. I chose this colour because I don’t like bright lipstick. I like when my lipstick looks dark. It’s a kind of dark berry color and it looks great with my red hair.

fullsizeoutput_fdd

On sephora.com the lipstick is  described as “An ultra-slim lipstick with a long- wearing, petal- soft matte finish, created in a rainbow of weightless, color-intense shades designed to flatter all skin tones. The size is 0.06 oz/1.7 g. The cost is $23 Canadian dollars.

fullsizeoutput_fdf

I like the fact that there is a lot of product on the stick. It’s  not like Mac lipsticks where, there is barely anything on the stick. It’s matte, but it doesn’t go on matte like mac lipsticks (Sorry for the constant comparisons mac). It’s very creamy when you apply it then it becomes matte. Genius, right?

fullsizeoutput_fdc

When it dries it’s matte but it’s not dried out matte like Mac matte lipsticks. EVERY TIME I wear mac lipsticks I always have to apply lip gloss over it because it’s so dry!. With this, when its dries it’s not that dry. It’s creamy, you know what I’m saying?

It’s really smooth and it doesn’t clump. I really love the dark colour and they have a wide range of colours. So if you want to go ratchet, there’s a colour for you or, if you want to be girly there’s a color there for you as well

fullsizeoutput_fe2

I also like the shape of the lipstick. The way it’s shaped makes it easier to apply the lipstick to the corners of your lips. I feel like the shape also helps me to keep the lipstick within the correct lines.

Below, are some pictures of me wearing it.

IMG_4961

I’ll give this lipstick a 5/5 stars. It’s not as matte as Fenty Beauty’s Stunna lip paint but I REALLY love the formula and I don’t really love super matte lipsticks anyway. I’ll definitely go back to sephora, to try out some new colours as well. Oh Rihanna please  don’t take all my coins.

Trend Spotting : Pantsuits

Perhaps, you thought that the era of pantsuits was over, well, you thought wrong.

It’s official, pants suits are back! Yes, matching your blazer with your pants is in style again. Yass honey! Grab that pantsuit that’s tucked away at the back of your closet hun.

Celebrities have been spotted all over wearing this trend, in varying styles and colours. You can see this trend frequently on celebrities like Bella Hadid, Tracee Ellis Ross and Beyonce.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

So, where did this trend begin? Well, in 1850, Amelia Bloomer, a women’s rights activist popularized the “bloomer pant” aka the baggy pant created by Elizabeth Smith Miller. By the 20th century, women’s pants were only appropriate for “occasional dressing only”.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

By the 1920’s and 30’s celebrities dared to wear full pantsuits to movie premieres. Pants, were deemed as men’s wear. Ordinary women were fined for wearing pants. Women in the United States were barred from wearing pants on the senate floor until 1993 when the “Pantsuit Rebellion” overturned that rule.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

Today, the pantsuit is used to make a statement of power for women. It’s showing the world that  women matter and we have a voice. We can now be on equal footing with men in the workplace.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

There are so many variations of pantsuits right now. There are  bright colours like read, pink and yellow. The blazers are structured differently now, instead of shoulder pads there are  peplum blazers, kimono blazers etc.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

Some of the blazers now have patterns like gingham, florals and checkers.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

I bought this pantsuit, a year ago from Zara. My best friend was graduating from University and I wanted to wear something sophisticated but cool. It was winter so I didn’t want to wear a dress so I chose a suit.  I mean, who wants to be outside trembling in the cold? Definitely not me.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

The color of the suit is army green and it’s really light weight. You can wear it on a sunny day and not feel over heated. The pants are high waisted and the blazer has buttons on the front in case you want to button up.

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

Processed with VSCO with kk1 preset

The price was reasonable and I didn’t have to break the bank. I think I purchased this suit for about $120 in total. Cheap, I know right? And people say that Zara is expensive. Haha, that’s funny.

I know, pantsuits can be tricky, you have to find the right size and make sure the pants are tailored to your liking. You can either dress it up with heels or down with sneakers. This suit makes me feel like a girl boss. It makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to.

Are you going  to a wedding or work function this weekend? Why don’t you try something new? Try a pantsuit instead of a dress. As drake would say ,”You only live once”.

Makeup Organizer

Being organized is hard, for me. If you googled the least organized person, my name would probably come up. You know what they say, “Bad habits die hard”.

I’ve been trying to become more organized recently, and I must say, it makes my life easier.

I recently  moved about 3 months ago and I didn’t really know how to organize my makeup or where to put them. I wondered if I should just leave them on my dresser? Do I put them on my washroom counter? Do I just throw them outside? These are the questions, I asked myself.

Well, I found the solution to my problem. Upon researching on Amazon, I saw these really cool plastic organizers, but I didn’t purchase them. One day, I went into the dollar store to get something and I saw similar plastic organizers, I was so happy! And the best thing is that they were so much cheaper than Amazon! Woohoo! Who doesn’t love cheap things?

Below, are some pictures of the organizers I purchased from my local Dollarama store here in Canada.

fullsizeoutput_f64

These are little plastic drawers. I use them to store my foundations, concealers, mascaras etc. It makes my life so much easier.I don’t have to be searching all over the place to find my makeup. I have 3 of them but I’m going to purchase more.

fullsizeoutput_f61

The top drawer is where I put all my concealers and my eyebrow gel. This is where all my Nyx concealears, NARS concealer and Rimmel London eyebrow gel are.

fullsizeoutput_f5e

Below my concealers are my Fenty Beauty match stix and shimmers. I have one for concealing, one for contouring and one for my highlighting. For my concealer I use the shade Latte, for my contouring I use the shade espresso and for my highlight I use the shade Sinamon.

fullsizeoutput_f63

fullsizeoutput_f5c

I put my foundations in the other drawers. I use Fenty Beauty, Maybelline and Loreal Infallible foundations. The drawers are clear, so it’s really easy to find everything.

fullsizeoutput_f5bfullsizeoutput_f5a

So where do I put my brushes, beauty blenders, lipsticks  and setting powder? Well, I also found another little treasure in the dollar store. Here’s a picture below.

fullsizeoutput_f65

fullsizeoutput_f66

This organizer has little pockets where I can put my lipsticks and the bigger pocket is where I put all my 10 brushes. In the middle is where I place my 4 beauty blenders, setting powder and setting spray.

I’ve probably said this a thousand times but this does make my life easier. I don’t have to be searching all over for my makeup. Everything is just there, in front of my face. The drawers are big enough to hold enough products and I love it.

Releasing Negativity

Have you ever had some really negative thoughts? Thoughts like “I’m not pretty enough” or “I don’t deserve this job” or, “No one is going to love me”. Do you worry about things that you have no control over? Whether it’s self imposed or something else, negative thinking can be a big obstacle in our personal development.

It’s a struggle that each of us go through daily. Being positive, takes a lot of work but it can be achieved. Instead of doing the easy thing and drowning in negativity, why not work at being more positive?

IMG_4768

Here are some full proof ways of releasing negative thoughts which I practice as well

  1. Whenever you start to feel worrisome, smile – Acknowledge that your worries are just an old habit that you’re choosing to release. Negativity is a choice and by smiling you’re telling negative thoughts to leave you alone.

IMG_4769

2. Take Deep Breaths – I have anxiety problems so this helps me to calm down. As you exhale say “I’m letting go”. Remind yourself that you don’t have to choose negative reactions any longer.

IMG_4771

3.Focus on something else – Sometimes, when I feel a negative thought coming on, instead of wallowing I try to focus on something else. I go clean my room or read a book to keep my mind focused on something else

IMG_4772

4. Be Grateful – Whenever I feel negative thoughts coming on I remember to be grateful. Gratefulness puts things in perspective and helps me to feel at peace. I thank God for my family, I thank God for a roof over my head etc. After doing this, I feel so much better.

IMG_4775

5) Don’t believe what you think – When my mom got sick I had thoughts of “Oh I’m going to have schizophrenia too and I’m not going to be able to have kids because they’re going to have schizophrenia too”. I felt paralyzed by my thoughts .My manager was the one who told me “You’re not going to have schizophrenia, you’re going to live a happy life”. That really changed my mindset. Believe in yourself.

IMG_4770

Releasing negativity isn’t easy, but, you have to start somewhere if you want to be happy.

You can start with these affirmations

  • I release fear and negativity, I choose to find joy in the present instead.
  • I choose to release fear.
  • I choose to have power over my thoughts.
  • I choose  to have a more peaceful attitude everyday.

IMG_4773

I’m not saying that, you’re going to be in a happy bubble everyday  and nothing is going to affect you. If that were the case we would be probably be in heaven right now. But in the same way that happiness is a choice so is negativity.

You can choose to wallow in negativity or rise above it and release it.

Beauty: The Product I Use for Baking my Face

Baking is a makeup technique that involves letting a setting powder sit on the face for an extended period, usually on top of concealer.

I remember the first time I saw people doing it on YouTube and I thought, “That’s ridiculous, what are they doing?”. But now, Baking is my best friend. Every time I have on makeup just know, my face is baked girl. A girl’s gotta get Baked! Hahaha.

I have oily skin, so setting sprays only make me oilier.I’ve tried several different brands, and none of them work. I’ve also tried different setting powders from ELF cosmetics,Mac cosmetics and also Nyx. These either made me look too ashy, or the powder wasn’t loose enough or it was caked all over my face. Yikes! It was a nightmare.

Luckily, for me, about a year ago I started watching Jeffree Star on YouTube.  A friend told me he was the makeup Guru, of Gurus. He was applying his makeup and then he started using this setting powder and he said, “This is the best setting powder y’all”. And I saw for myself that it was really good. I researched what it was and found out that it was called RCMA No Color Powder and then I purchased it on Amazon. I love it!

fullsizeoutput_f41

When I put this on I use a beauty blender and it doesn’t leave me looking ashy or caked.

fullsizeoutput_f42

There’s a lot in the bottle so I don’t have to buy anymore till next year. Hahaha

fullsizeoutput_f40

I start out by applying my foundation, then concealer, then setting powder. Yes, in that order. I need to sap up that oil baby girl. Haha.

Below are some pictures of the process

1)After applying foundation and concealer get a beauty blender and add setting powder. Don’t add too much, because you don’t want to look ashy.IMG_4668.jpeg

2) Apply powder to your face using the beauty blender. I apply the powder where the concealer is, my T zone area. So my forehead, under eyes nose and chin. Those are the spots that usually get too oily. I let it stay on for about 5 minutes to soak up the oil while I do my eyebrows or eyelashes. I don’t dampen the beauty blender.

IMG_4672

3) Then, I use the same beauty blender and blend out the powder after 5 minutes. Then I switch to a clean beauty blender and brush off the excess powder. Above, I was using a blue beauty blender and in this picture below I’m using a pink one.

IMG_4677-1

4) Then, I use my Quo Powder brush to brush off the rest of the powder and blend everything in.

IMG_4679-1

And this is the end result!

IMG_4689

IMG_4681

I’m not a beauty guru, but this is by far my favourite setting powder. I don’t like setting sprays because they make me oily so this is the best thing for me.

Why I like Online Shopping

Online shopping is not for everyone, maybe that’s why I like it so much. All you have to do is put your items in your shopping cart and you’re done! No hard lifting, no stress. So easy!

IMG_4631

I’ve been shopping online now for a long time. Do I go to the mall? Yes, sometimes but I’m often disappointed.

So, why do I like it so much?

1) I can get the new arrivals before they arrive in the store – Sometimes, I’ll see something online and want to purchase it but, when I go into the store they say they haven’t received it yet. Like what? I like my clothes fresh out the warehouse you know what I’m saying?

IMG_4630

2) You don’t have to wait in line – Have you ever been inside Zara on a Friday? Girl, you should see that line. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Who wants to spend hours in a line when you can have your clothing delivered right to your door.

IMG_4629

3) You get to stand out – Online shopping allows you to stand out. You get the chance to wear one of a kind pieces that no one else has. Every time I wear something unique people ask me “Where did you get that from?” and I’m like “Online!’.

IMG_4632

4) It’s easy – All you need is your credit card or visa debit and that’s it. LOL. You don’t have to spend hours walking through the mall looking for stuff. You just go online and search for what you want and BAM you purchase it and it’s delivered to your door. It’s like magic!

IMG_4634

5) Online has what I want – Have you ever gone into the mall and couldn’t find what you wanted? Yeah, that’s me. I often go into the mall with a vision and most times the mall doesn’t have my vision. P.s. mall, can you get my vision? Hahah.

IMG_4633

Online shopping is really convenient. A lot of my friends say that they could never do it. They ask me “So how do you know your size?”, well, from experience girl.

The first time I bought jeans online they were so tight! But over the years from going to the store and knowing what my size actually is, I now know how it works. You could say I’m a pro now, hahaha.

I only go into the mall really if I’m close by to one, or to test out makeup in Sephora.

As I said before online shopping isn’t for everyone but it works for me. I love it, it’s so easy!
