Hey guys! Welcome back to my blog! I was supposed to post on Sunday but I was just enjoying the last day of summer. I went to 2 BBQS in one day! I had so much fun!
Today, I want to touch on How I take my Blog photos.
As I look at the newest Vogue Magazine cover and look at people like Bella Hadid posing, I wonder, “How the hell do you look this good?”. And then I go cry in my room. I’m kidding, but in the last 6 months since starting this blog I finally feel like I know how to take my blog photos! Finally!
So how do I take my Outfit photos for my blog? How do I pose? Keep reading….
1 Find Someone who you’re comfortable with – Look I’m not saying that I can’t work with someone that I’m not comfortable with but at the beginning of starting this blog I started with someone who I wasn’t comfortable with and it showed in my photos. I’m not blaming the person but I needed direction and I wasn’t really getting that. I’m grateful that they wanted to help me. I wanted tips like “Turn your head this way, or that looks better”. I didn’t get that. And again I’m not blaming the person but I think I was just trying to figure it out. I mean, it doesn’t make sense to take 50 photos but only like one out of the bunch. Now, my mom takes my photos and I feel very comfortable and I also use my tripod as well and I can actually see how I’m posing.
2 Find somewhere to place your hands – This was hard for me at the beginning. My hands are really long OK? I never really know where to place them. One day, my best friend came over and gave me some tips. She said, “Just find somewhere to place your hands other than your side”. From then on I started placing them in my hair, on my knees etc.
3 Know your Angles – For me the left side of my face is my good side. When posing for the camera I mostly turn my head to the left side. It just works visually better for me. Also holding the camera high, it makes you look skinnier. Whenever my mom takes my photos I always remind her to hold the camera up. Sometimes she gets annoyed HAHA but I love my mom.
4 Look at how other people pose – I got tired of the way how I posed, so I saw an Article on Who What Wear that literally said, “New Poses You Should Try’, and I was like God, is this you? I studied how the people posed, and I decided to try that bending down one that all the insta models do a couple of weeks ago and I really liked the result. Yes, not every pose works for everyone but test out which ones work.
5 Practice facial expressions in the mirror – When I’m too serious my photos don’t look great so I find that smiling or smirking works best. Looking away from the camera also gives a good vibe as if you’re reflecting on something.
6 Lighting is Everything – Whether you’re taking your photos inside, or outside, lighting matters. In the summertime, I like to take my photos in the mornings at 9am on Sundays. Early mornings are when the sun is brightest. I wake up at 8, get dressed apply my makeup and take my photos. When I’m indoors I turn my room light on and I also have another light that I put beside my tripod that helps my photos look bright.
Yes, so these are the things that I’ve learned in the 6 months that I’ve been blogging. Am I an expert? No, but this is my personal experience and I’m still learning everyday. I’m also finally getting more comfortable in front of the camera. It’s taken me 6 months can you believe it? But everything takes time, even Bella Hadid said it the other day in an interview that she’s just now learning her angles, and she’s been modelling for awhile now.
The moral of this story? Things take time and that’s OK.
My dress is from Zara, I bought it 2 years ago so I don’t think they have it anymore but you can find similar ones Here
