One thing that is clear about me, is that, I love to express myself through my fashion. One day, I might be feeling really dark and I’ll decide to wear all black and the next day I’ll be feeling like a hippie and you’ll see me wearing a long crochet dress. The best thing about fashion, is that you can be anyone, you want to be. It’s the best feeling ever!
Today, I’ll be talking about Crochet Styles. Yes, crochet isn’t just about that hat that your great Aunt made for you, when you were 5 years old or that cover up that you wear to the beach. You can throw on a crochet top with jeans or a crochet skirt with a T- Shirt. It’s all about taking risks this summer.
Yes, crochet is in style. This trend is very simple and easy to wear. Most people think that you can only wear crochet to the beach but that’s simply not the case. You can wear crochet styles to a bbq, festival or on a cute date.
This weekend, my friends and I decided to go the TD Irie Fest in Mississauga, Canada. The festival showcases the Caribbean Culture. They had Caribbean food trucks, Jamaican clothing and reggae music playing. It was so much fun!
Before the festival, I wondered what I should wear. I wanted to look Caribbean, so I started perusing the internet looking for things. After looking at Forever 21 and other websites, I went to Zara and saw that they had a sale. I was so happy! I then saw this crochet top and skirt on sale and I decided to get it. I felt like the skirt and top really captured what I was going for.
I liked the fact that the skirt and top were black but it had the Rastafarian colours of red, green and yellow. It reminded me of Jamaica (where I’m from), so much. I felt very cool and artsy. I felt like i was representing Jamaica.
It was a very chilly day, so I decided to wear a denim jacket over the skirt and top. I wore sneakers that night because it rained during the day.
The thing that I like the most about this outfit, is the simplicity. I don’t feel like I’m trying too hard and it was fit for the occasion. I felt like I took a risk with this and it paid off because I don’t normally wear things like this.
I’m just trying to have fun this summer and try new things. I really had a tough time last year with my mom being sick, so now, I’m just trying to take everything in, explore, meet new people and just enjoy every moment.
