The Water Challenge

I’m not a health nut or anything. In fact, I’m far from it. So, what gives me the right to speak about health? Well, I’m trying to be healthier. I’m trying to live till I’m 100 years old, ok?

Well, recently, I’ve been on The Water Challenge.  What is the water challenge? My definition of the water challenge is, drinking as much water as possible in a day. Meaning, I drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.

I started this challenge because I noticed that I don’t drink enough water. Throughout the day, I’d probably only drink one glass of water and I said, “Hmm, this is probably not healthy at all Raceen”, so, I decided to make a change.

At first, it was really hard. You know, going from only drinking one glass of water, to drinking 8-10 glasses of water is hard. I had to force the water down, literally. Haha. But as the days progressed it got easier. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit right?

So, what are some benefits of drinking more water?

  1. Drinking More Water Helps Treat Headaches – I have migraines often, so I find that drinking water helps with the intensity. As soon as I feel a headache coming on I drink lots of water to make it go away.
  2. Drinking More Water Helps with Weight loss – I’ve noticed that since I’ve started drinking lots of water, I’ve lost a little weight. This is because water increases your metabolism and helps you feel full longer. It is recommended by scientists to drink water half an hour before meals to feel fuller longer.
  3. Drinking More Water helps with constipation – This is probably too much information but I’ll say it anyways. Drinking more water has made me poop more. Before I rarely pooped. I’m glad that it’s cleaning out my system.

Again, I’m not a health nut. I’m just trying to be healthier. I gotta start somewhere you know what I’m saying?

Also, I’m not forcing anyone to do what I do. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

This is what I’ve been doing and I just wanted to share.

What health challenges are you taking on this week? Is it hard to be healthy?

Will you join me in this challenge?

Random Thoughts : Bullying Can End

Have you ever seen the movie The Duff? If not, you should watch it. Like seriously. If you haven’t watched it, are you even human? I don’t think so. Why did I bring this movie up? Keep reading.

The Duff, is essentially a movie about a girl, who gets bullied and called ugly and guys don’t go after her because they think her friends are hotter. Seems familiar? Can you relate?

Right now, you’re probably wondering what the word, Duff means. Let me enlighten you. Duff means Designated Ugly Fat Friend. Yeah, people are dumb.

So how can I relate to this movie?

Well, believe it or not I was bullied in high school. I can’t relate to the fat part in Duff but I was always picked on. I guess my face said, “Pick on me”?. Sometimes I would just cry and wonder when it would end. He would call me “Ugly” and “Big Head” everyday. Then he would just laugh at me. My parents had no idea what was going on because I was afraid of telling them.

I remember I had this accident in class. My period had come unannounced and it spilled on my uniform but I didn’t know. When I got up there was blood all over my uniform and the bully just laughed at me and said, “You’re bleeding”. I was so embarrassed! If it wasn’t for him no one would know that I had an accident

I had beautiful girlfriends in high school, I still do. All the guys would flock to them or only talk to me because they wanted a chance with my friends. I used to feel so ugly. I often wondered “When is someone going to notice me?”. My self esteem was so low.

I wondered when would this all end?

Eventually, I learned to ignore the bully. And he eventually left me alone. I was so relieved.

To all those suffering or who have suffered from bullying just know you are not alone. It’s  not going to last forever. Those same bullies will move on to something else, or they’ll stop.

Bullies are just people who have low self esteem, have nothing better to do, or people who were, themselves bullied. Don’t let them get to you. You will survive. Bullies think that high school is all there is to life. They don’t think that there is life beyond high school and that’s sad.

I really feel bad for bullies.

I survived High School and I survived that bully and you can too. My friends and my perseverance helped me.I also learned to love myself and believe that I was beautiful despite that guys comments about me being ugly. He wasn’t even cute, so I don’t know what or who gave him the right to call someone ugly.

If I was looking for someone to date, he would never be my choice at all.

The only thing I wished I did more, was stand up for myself. I wish I had told that bully to go sit somewhere and leave me alone. But you know, in those moments when you’re being bullied, you’re not really thinking about what to say, or do. You just feel really afraid of the person who is bullying you.

But just hold on. If you can, find the courage to stand up for yourself. If not report that person to your teacher or tell someone. No one deserves bullying. No one.

Keep ya head up!

Releasing Negativity

Have you ever had some really negative thoughts? Thoughts like “I’m not pretty enough” or “I don’t deserve this job” or, “No one is going to love me”. Do you worry about things that you have no control over? Whether it’s self imposed or something else, negative thinking can be a big obstacle in our personal development.

It’s a struggle that each of us go through daily. Being positive, takes a lot of work but it can be achieved. Instead of doing the easy thing and drowning in negativity, why not work at being more positive?

Here are some full proof ways of releasing negative thoughts which I practice as well

  1. Whenever you start to feel worrisome, smile – Acknowledge that your worries are just an old habit that you’re choosing to release. Negativity is a choice and by smiling you’re telling negative thoughts to leave you alone.

2. Take Deep Breaths – I have anxiety problems so this helps me to calm down. As you exhale say “I’m letting go”. Remind yourself that you don’t have to choose negative reactions any longer.

3.Focus on something else – Sometimes, when I feel a negative thought coming on, instead of wallowing I try to focus on something else. I go clean my room or read a book to keep my mind focused on something else

4. Be Grateful – Whenever I feel negative thoughts coming on I remember to be grateful. Gratefulness puts things in perspective and helps me to feel at peace. I thank God for my family, I thank God for a roof over my head etc. After doing this, I feel so much better.

5) Don’t believe what you think – When my mom got sick I had thoughts of “Oh I’m going to have schizophrenia too and I’m not going to be able to have kids because they’re going to have schizophrenia too”. I felt paralyzed by my thoughts .My manager was the one who told me “You’re not going to have schizophrenia, you’re going to live a happy life”. That really changed my mindset. Believe in yourself.

Releasing negativity isn’t easy, but, you have to start somewhere if you want to be happy.

You can start with these affirmations

  • I release fear and negativity, I choose to find joy in the present instead.
  • I choose to release fear.
  • I choose to have power over my thoughts.
  • I choose  to have a more peaceful attitude everyday.

I’m not saying that, you’re going to be in a happy bubble everyday  and nothing is going to affect you. If that were the case we would be probably be in heaven right now. But in the same way that happiness is a choice so is negativity.

You can choose to wallow in negativity or rise above it and release it.
