How to Wear Layers for Fall

Fall is upon us and it’s really cold outside. I don’t know where you live, but in Canada it feels like winter already. With the dropped temperatures it’s time for scarves, sweaters and boots. It’s time to layer up!  The only thing with layers is that, sometimes you get too hot, but I’d rather be hot than cold. You know what I’m saying?Today, I want to show you some really fashionable ways to wear layers.

IMG_9252.jpg

For this look, I wore a nude coat over my outfit as a cape. It really made the outfit pop.  and incorporated colour into my all black ensemble. It made my outfit look really high fashion. A black coat would have made the outfit boring.

IMG_9254

Under the coat, I wore a black blazer, this really provided a lot of warmth as I was only wearing a tank top underneath. The blazer was double breasted and it looked really smart on me.

IMG_9262

I also wore a really thick grey scarf to keep out the cold from my neck. This I bought from H&M a year ago.

IMG_9259

There are so many ways that you can layer up for fall. You can wear cardigans under your jacket, scarves, sweatshirts with an added shirt underneath, so many ways!

Are you layering up? Or are you someone who likes the cold and doesn’t care about being warm? Comment below.

A Day In The Life of A Blogger

I think I’ve said this countless times, “Blogging is like a second job”. It’s not a hard second job, it’s really fun,  but it’s a lot of work and effort. Instead of sleeping in, you have to wake up and plan outfits and write about them. It’s like your weekends aren’t yours anymore because they belong to blogging. But I’m happy, at least I get to immerse myself into something creative.

Today, I want to walk you through A day in my life as a Blogger.

AfterlightImage

So here’s how my day goes…..

1. I get ready – I wake up and take a shower. I used to take my blog photos early in the mornings in the summertime and I used  wake up at 7 am on Sundays, but now it’s really dark and ugly outside and I don’t want to spend hours editing my pics and adding light to them. So now ,I take my photos indoors, in my room to be precise. I start around 5 pm

AfterlightImage

2. I choose my Outfits – Look, I’m not one of those rich people who can afford to buy clothes all the time. I buy clothes occasionally for events. When blogging, I don’t necessarily plan my outfits the night before. Sometimes ,I’ll just walk into my closet and say, “Hmm, that pants would look great with that shirt”, and that’s how I come up with my outfits. And sometimes I get inspiration from Instagram. It’s all very random, it’s not something that I plan really. I always have one outfit for my blog, and I also take additional photos  of different outfits for my instagram as well.

AfterlightImage

3. I set up my Camera – I used to have a photographer, then my mom started taking my photos for me. Now, I take them by myself. So how do I take them by myself? I use my tripod, and I use my Iphone 7. I have a professional camera, but the focus on it is trash so now I use my phone. I also have a light in my room that enhances my pictures. And I put my phone on self timer for 10 seconds and I take a whole bunch of photos.

AfterlightImage

4 I edit my photos – Editing is not a long process for me. I use Afterlight because it has dust and I like the presets as well. It basically has everything that I like to add to my photos, and it’s really easy to use. Sometimes I use Vsco cam and Lightroom as well.

AfterlightImage

5. I blog – Coming up with a topic to blog about, is hard sometimes. I have a list of topics but sometimes it’s still hard to find one that fits.. I always do my blogs based on the photos I take. Maybe I should change that though. Sometimes I also find inspiration from other bloggers. It takes me an hour to blog, depending on what I’m blogging about but I enjoy writing. It’s one of the subjects that I truly enjoyed in High school.

This is how my Fashion blogging days usually go. This is a day in the life of Raceen, the Fashion blogger. It’s a lot of work but I know that one day it will pay off. And it’s actually things that I LOVE TO DO. I LOVE to write, I LOVE taking photos and I LOVE editing.

Blogging is the best.

How to Incorporate Colour Into your Wardrobe

I don’t like wearing bright colours. Surprise! Haha, black is my favourite colour (Yes, I know black is a shade but I’d rather call it a colour, sue me). Recently though, I find that wearing bright  colours is sorta nice? It spices things up. It makes you stand out.  And I sorta kinda don’t completely hate the idea anymore. People change OK? Keep reading to find out how I incorporate colour into my wardrobe.….

AfterlightImage

It’s summer and I like to feel girly and airy. Summer is the time to definitely put your black and grey clothes in a suitcase  far away. I mean, I want to reflect feelings of joy and happiness so this summer especially, I wore a lot of yellows and reds. People definitely took notice. Here’s how you can do the same.

Wear a Bright Coloured Blazer – This blazer is about 2 years old. At first I didn’t want to purchase it but I was tired of wearing black all the time. The first time I wore it I got so many compliments. This can be worn as a dress or with trousers.

fullsizeoutput_19f0

Get a different coloured purse from your Outfit – Girls, you don’t always have to match everything. Your dress doesn’t have to match your shoes and purse. Style is all about taking risks. So if you’re wearing a blue dress you can wear a yellow purse.

fullsizeoutput_19f3

Try wearing bright Shades – I didn’t start getting into this trend until I saw Rihanna doing it in her wild thoughts music video. I was like “Yeah that looks so high fashion, let me go buy some pink shades”. I looked so bomb.

fullsizeoutput_19f2

Throw on bright sandals – This perks up your everyday work wear. Aldo has a great collection of colours  for those days when you want to spice things up.

fullsizeoutput_19f1

Yes, so those are some of the ways in which I incorporate colour into my wardrobe. Sometimes I feel weird because as I mentioned above I like wearing black but I figured that nothing great ever happened to anyone who stayed stuck in the comfort zone.

So break out. Break the rules.  Break free.

Try something new.

Do you like wearing colours? If so, how do you incorporate it into your wardrobe. Comment below

The Trend Report : Linen Styles

Linen is one of the biggest trends this season. In the past, I only thought of  linen as the clothing my Grandma wears on Sundays to Church. Remember those linen skirt suits that always got rumpled after sitting down? Remember those days? Haha, I feel so old. Continue reading….

IMG_7112

Linen this season is very elevated and fresh. It’s not just about those skirt suits that your grandma used to wear. Now, there are linen vests, dresses and cute linen pants.

IMG_7121

Linen is great for the summer. I love that linen is light and airy, it almost feels like you’re not wearing anything, which is something I live for. I just like to feel comfortable Ok?

AfterlightImage

I saw this dress in Winners a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t go into the store to buy clothes, I just wanted a beach towel, but then I saw this dress. I fell in love with it. When I looked at the rack, I only saw size small, so in my head I kept muttering, “God, please let my size be there” over and over. Look, I really wanted the dress OK? It was just so beautiful. There was only one on the rack, but I kept searching. I then said to myself, “Look on the other side”. Then I saw more sizes and I was so happy. I went to the changing room and I prayed that it would fit my upper chest, because I have huge boobs and it’s really hard to find cute stuff. that fit that part of my body. When I went into the changing room and  tried it on and saw that it fit I was so happy.

AfterlightImage

I like that this dress is a great example of how to wear modern linen. This dress can be worn with some nice heels and simple makeup. It didn’t crush that much. I really love this dress.

Linen isn’t just in neutral colours in 2018. There are bright coloured linen clothes and also dark colours as well like grey and black. I think linen is here to stay. What do you think?

What new trends are you trying this year? Have you ever worn linen before?

What to Wear When You’re A Lazy Dresser Like Me

If you’re like me, putting too much effort into matching your skirt with your top, or into looking stylish for that matter,  can be exhausting! Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion and I think that effort should be made, in regards to how you look, but why does it have to be so complicated? It could be so easy. Instead of spending 1 hour trying to piece a look together why not just spend 20 mins?

fullsizeoutput_1539

Listen, I don’t want or need to spend an hr on my outfit, when I could be using that time for something else, like putting on my makeup. Where am I going to that I need to spend hours coming up with an outfit? Am I going to be meeting with the Queen of England?

I’m fashionable, but I’m a really lazy, so here are some ideas of What to Wear When You’re a Lazy Dresser like Me

Wear Dresses – Wearing a dress is my go to. I just pop on a dress and I’m ready to go in no time. No stress, no hassle. It can be a T- Shirt dress, shirt dress etc.

IMG_6465

Bike Shorts and A T- Shirt – I love wearing this combination these days. Whenever I need to run an errand I just throw on a bike shorts and a T shirt and I’m out of the house. So easy and simple.

IMG_6462

Jumpsuits – Jumpsuits are the laziest outfits ever! There’s no fuss, throw on a jumpsuit with a pair of heels and you’re good to get going.

IMG_6463

Jeans and a T- Shirt – Who doesn’t love a good jeans and T- Shirt outfit? This is just for when you really can’t be bothered

IMG_6464

A Faux Fur Vest and a Dress – As seen above this is the laziest outfit ever. It doesn’t take much effort but don’t I look fabulous?

The point of this post isn’t to bash anyone. I’m just showing that fashion and style doesn’t have to take you hours. It can be simple and really easy.

For someone who is as lazy as I am, the options above work really well.

Why make it complicated when it could all be so easy? You know what I’m saying?

Dress – My dress was 20$ from H&M but I bought it like 2 years ago. You can find similar ones Here

Faux Fur Vest – The exact one that I have is sold out as I bought it 2 years ago but you can find similar ones Here

Do you take hours to put an outfit together or are you a lazy dresser like me? Comment below. I wanna hear your thoughts

Have a fabulous week my darlings! XOXO

Things You’ll Never See Me Wearing

I love fashion, I really do, but there are just certain things, you will Never see me wearing. If you do happen to see me wearing them though, (because I’m human, Duh), please ask me if I’m OK. Haha. IMG_6233

I don’t follow EVERY trend and I don’t like everything that I see in the stores or online. I just like the things that I like. Don’t you? What’s the point of wearing clothes if you can’t wear the things that you like? Let me spell it out for you, “There’s no point”.With that being said, I do have a list of Things that You’ll Never See Me Wearing. Here it goes…

Floral Dresses or Anything Floral – I HATE anything floral. I’m not a girly girl, maybe that’s why? But I just hate the way how floral things look on me. Whenever I try on anything floral, I just want to rip it off my skin. Haha.

IMG_6234

Sweatpants – I probably only own one pair of sweatpants. Yes, I do get cold in the winter months,  but I just wear jeans. I absolutely hate wearing sweatpants. Haha, sweatpants lovers don’t come for my head. Do I see myself wearing more sweatpants in the future? Absolutely not. The only thing in the sweatpants realm that looks remotely interesting to me, are those Adidas Track Pants. I’m probably going to buy one of those soon.

IMG_6235

Stripes – I remember the first time I bought a striped top for work and I thought it would look good on me, but it didn’t. My problem with stripes, is that they make me boobs look huge. Yes, I already know that my boobs are big, but I like to stay away from things that point out that fact. Will I ever wear stripes in the future? Maybe not a top, but maybe a striped skirt?

IMG_6236

A line Skirts – These don’t look flattering on me at all. I don’t know if I’m not buying the right one or what, but I give up. You’ll never see me in an A line skirt, EVER.There’s just too much material swallowing me up. I can’t be bothered

IMG_6238

Yes, so this is my list. I typically don’t buy things on this list, because I really do hate them. Will I ever change my mind in the future? Maybe. They say “Never Say Never”

They say that fashion is all about taking risks but I’m not into taking risks with things that I hate or that I don’t think look flattering on me.

If you are into wearing A line skirts, by all means, continue, but some things are just not for me.

IMG_6240

I’m not trying to change anyone, this post is just about the things that you’ll never see me wearing.

Tips to Look More Fashionable

Have you ever looked into the mirror and thought, “Hmm my fashion needs work” or, “Maybe I should tweak my style a little?”. Well, I think this happens to most of us. Fashion can be tough sometimes, but not impossible to master. It’s not math Y’all, (Let’s see the hands of those who hate math and think it’s difficult Aka me). Looking fashionable, is not all about buying the most expensive Versace pieces or wearing the latest trends, it can be very simple, easy and affordable.fullsizeoutput_1387Here are some Tips that have helped me through the years to look more fashionable.

  1. Try something new – Yes, if you’re tired of looking the same all the time, the answer? Try something new. No, I’m not saying you should completely go out of your comfort zone, but try something new that you’re comfortable with. So if you’re someone who constantly likes to wear black maybe try wearing bright blue for a change? Change is always good. Start small and work your way up.fullsizeoutput_1386
  2. Wear Sunglasses – I find that adding sunglasses to any outfit just makes it pop and look 10 times more fashionable. Wearing sunglasses with my outfits makes me feel like I’m some rich lady who has her shit together and can conquer the world.fullsizeoutput_1385
  3. Wear a shoe that doesn’t match – I know you queens, like to match your red top with your red jeans, and your red shoes but sometimes, it’s good to switch things up. Pair your green dress with your purple shoes. You’ll instantly look more fashionable and chic. In these pictures I’m wearing  snake skin mules with a lavender dress which Clearly don’t match but I love it.fullsizeoutput_1389
  4. Wear your Jacket on your shoulders – I remember the first time I tried this and people were staring at me. Haha, that’s how you grab people’s attention. It’s like you’re wearing a cape but not really.fullsizeoutput_1388
  5. Wear your cross body bag in front – I find myself doing it a lot more these days. It just showcases the bag more and since my blue bag is my favourite, I find that I want to show it off more. I find that this makes me look more high fashion.

Other tips include :Playing around with sizes – Sometimes I like to wear oversized clothing whether it be a top or jeans. It just goes with a tomboyish vibe that I might be having that day and just makes me look super chicCheck your closet – It’s good to always peruse your closet. That dress that you had when you were 16? Maybe it’s time to get rid of it Susan. Don’t be a hoarder. Ask yourself “Do I really need this or even wear this? If the answer is “No”, get rid of it.If you think your style is fine then there’s no need to update it. These are just tips that have helped me in my personal life. You can follow them, or not, it’s up to you really. It seems like the dress that I bought, is sold out but you can shop a similar one HereWhat other tips are there out there that can help someone become more fashionable? Crochet Fashion

One thing that is clear about me, is that, I love to express myself through my fashion. One day, I might be feeling really dark and I’ll decide to wear all black and the next day I’ll be feeling like a hippie and you’ll see me wearing a long crochet dress. The best thing about fashion, is that you can be anyone, you want to be. It’s the best feeling ever!

Today, I’ll be talking about Crochet Styles. Yes, crochet isn’t just about that hat that your great Aunt made for you, when you were 5 years old or that cover up that you wear to the beach. You can throw on a crochet top with jeans or a crochet skirt with a T- Shirt. It’s all about taking risks this summer.

IMG_5697

Yes, crochet is in style. This trend is very simple and easy to wear. Most people think that you can only wear crochet to the beach but that’s simply not the case. You can wear crochet styles to a bbq, festival or on a cute date.

IMG_5690

This weekend, my friends and I decided to go the TD Irie Fest in Mississauga, Canada. The festival showcases the Caribbean Culture. They had Caribbean food trucks, Jamaican clothing and reggae  music playing. It was so much fun!

IMG_5687

Before the festival, I wondered what I should wear. I wanted to look Caribbean, so I started perusing the internet looking for things. After looking at Forever 21 and other websites, I went to Zara and saw that they had a sale. I was so happy! I then saw this crochet  top and skirt on sale  and I decided to get it. I felt like the skirt and top really captured what I was going for.

IMG_5694

I liked the fact that the skirt and top were black but it had the Rastafarian colours of red, green and yellow. It reminded me of Jamaica (where I’m from), so much. I felt very cool and artsy. I felt like i was representing Jamaica.

IMG_5696

It was a very chilly day, so I decided to wear a denim jacket over the skirt and top. I wore sneakers that night because it rained during the day.

IMG_5699

The thing that I like the most about this outfit, is the simplicity. I don’t feel like I’m trying too hard and it was fit for the occasion. I felt like I took a risk with this and it paid off because I don’t normally wear things like this.

IMG_5688

I’m just trying to have fun this summer and try new things. I really had a tough time last year with my mom being sick, so now, I’m just trying to take everything in, explore, meet new people and just enjoy every moment.

How I find the Time to Blog

I have a full time job. I work 5 days per week from 9am – 5pm. I also have a household to take care of. So, how in the hell do I find the time to blog?

Processed with VSCO with q2 preset

Well, it’s not easy, I can tell you that. It looks easy though. Right?

I’ve always been interested in starting a blog. I read so many blogs and magazines on a daily basis, so I thought, why not? And I love fashion and I love taking pictures so it’s the perfect fit.

People think that blogging  just entails taking a bunch of pictures and that’s it. Well, it’s not sis.

Processed with VSCO with m2 preset

The pictures have to be edited and you have to find topics to talk about. You have to find the right editing apps because not every editing app makes you look good or makes your content look appealing.

Processed with VSCO with q5 preset

My Sundays are basically dedicated to creating content for the fashion part of my blog. Sometimes, I try to take multiple pictures of different fashion looks to post. I wake up, eat breakfast and from there I put on makeup and decide what to wear that day. Creating content on Sundays means that I don’t get much time to go out with friends and stuff like that.

Processed with VSCO with q5 preset

Creating content takes a lot of time. What I try to do these days is write down a list of topics as they come, so that I have inspiration to write. I’m also trying to plan my looks from in the week before Sunday comes so I don’t have to stress.

Processed with VSCO with q4 preset

The beauty part of my blog is probably the easiest part because I have a lot of beauty products.

I want to be a successful blogger and one day get paid to blog. In order to do that I have to put the time and effort into this.

Processed with VSCO with l2 preset

Yes, I’m tired on Sundays and sometimes in the week, I just want to go to bed. But my mama taught me that anything worth having takes time and effort and sacrifice.

You have 24 hours in a day, why not use that time to develop that talent that you have, or that passion that you’re sitting on? Beyonce does it. Why can’t you too?.

Dressing Well, Why it’s Important

There’s this quote on the internet that says, “Dressing Well is A form of Good Manners”. I’m sure you’ve seen it on your friends Instagram or somewhere before. So what does it mean? Does it mean that, if you don’t dress well, you don’t have manners? Does it mean, that I should wear high heels and a long elegant dress to the supermarket? What does it all mean?.

Processed with VSCO with g4 preset

Well, I think it means that if you’ve put the effort into dressing up or dressing your best, it shows a sign of respect to whoever you’re meeting or whoever crosses your path. Different occasions call for different types of dressing. If I’m going on a date, OF COURSE I’m going to dress up and put on makeup, especially, on a first date. Even if  I’m just meeting up with my best friend, I still dress up. Does that make me a narcissist? I don’t think so, it just means that I respect my friends enough to look my best when I’m around them. It means that I  put thought and effort into what I’m going to wear to see them because I care. And it also means that I love dressing up, LOL, anyone who knows me really well, knows this.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

So why dress well then? What’s the purpose of it all?

It Promotes Self Respect – Putting the effort into how you dress shows self respect and self worth. When you dress well people will look at you differently. If I respect myself others will respect me.When I go into the office in a suit people are so polite and respectful. If I choose to wear sweatpants one day in the office people look at me differently.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

First Impressions Count – Believe it or not they do. If you’re going to a job interview are you really going to wear that jeans shorts? Ok, maybe not jeans shorts, but are you really going to wear jeans and a T-shirt? What do you think your potential employer is going to think?

4392A356-D889-4B39-A680-6ADE90A8E3FD.JPG

It Builds Self Confidence – There’s no questioning it. When you dress up, you feel good and that in turn makes you feel more confident. When you feel good on the outside there’s no question that you’ll feel good on the inside. This red dress that I’m wearing in my photos makes feel sexy and confident. No wonder I wear it so often.

Processed with VSCO with q4 preset

It Draws the right Kind of Attention – When you dress well, you stand out from the crowd. Want the attention of that guy you’re crushing on? Girl, take off those sweatpants and put on some nice jeans girl.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

This post is not about me judging people who wear sweatpants or don’t dress up. I believe, people should be comfortable, in their own skin, whatever that might be. Dressing well, means something differently for everyone. I might think that dressing well ,means putting on a nice blouse and jeans and to you, it might mean putting on sneakers and a sweatshirt. Again, no judgement here.

Does dressing well mean I have to wear heels everywhere I go? ( I wish I could wear heels everywhere I go). No it doesn’t mean wearing heels or a suit everywhere you go. There’s after all a time and a place for everything. Are you going to wear heels to go camping?.

Does it mean that I’m a narcissist for wanting to look nice?. No again, I just LOVE dressing up and I feel confident when I dress well.

Does it mean I don’t respect my friends if I go to their house in my head tie and sweater? No, it just means ya girl just can’t be bothered today.

Dressing well also doesn’t mean breaking the bank and buying overly expensive clothing. There’s affordable clothing that looks great as well.

I dress well because I respect myself, it makes me feel confident and I love clothes.

You can find similar dresses like the one I’m wearing Here

Why do you dress up? Comment below.
